Why would I want to mention that? Because Saudi Arabia has become an unconventional player in the Middle East and especially the Gulf region.
Here some short points:
- Out of Germany Reported by the news channel ARD: The Saudi Kingdom has just called his ambassador to Germany back to Riyad due to unpopular comments by Germany’s Secretary of State, Gabriel.
- Saudi King, Salman Bin Abdul Aziz is supposedly handing over the throne to his son, Prince Abdullah, a 30-year old, quite advanced thinking man, who is actually trying to bring the country into the 21st century, cleaning up corruption, putting women into the work force in Saudi Arabia, previously, limited to educational and health oriented professions and pushing through driver’s licenses for women, who will actually then be allowed to drive.
- Most importantly, however, are developments in the century old clash between Sunni and Shiite Muslims and recent events in Lebanon.
I will want to elaborate on all 3 points a bit later.
